President John Dramani Mahama says Government has officially restarted negotiations with the Export-Import Bank of Korea (Korea Exim Bank) to secure a US$200 million facility for the expansion of the Ho Teaching Hospital. He said the landmark project will increase the Hospital's capacity by an additional 500 beds, significantly enhancing its ability to provide advanced specialist healthcare, medical education, and research while positioning the facility as a key driver of the Government's medical tourism agenda. President Mahama said this during the Government's Resetting Ghana Citizens' Engagement held at the Ho Technical University, where he interacted with residents of the Volta Region and outlined the Government's development priorities and commitments.
The engagement formed part of the Government's nationwide initiative to strengthen citizen participation in governance through open dialogue on inclusive development, economic transformation, improved public service delivery, and sustainable national growth. The forum enabled citizens, traditional leaders, public sector institutions, development partners, students, and civil society organisations to engage directly with the President, share perspectives, and contribute ideas towards the country's development. The proposed expansion of Ho Teaching Hospital represents a major strategic investment in Ghana's healthcare infrastructure.
Beyond increasing bed capacity, the project is expected to enhance specialist and sub-specialist clinical services, improve access to quality healthcare, strengthen medical training and research, and position the Hospital as a regional centre of excellence capable of attracting patients from across Ghana, West Africa, and beyond. The Chief Executive Officer of Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Hintermann K. K. Mbroh, participated in the engagement, reaffirming the Hospital's commitment to collaborating with Government and key stakeholders to realise transformational healthcare projects that will improve health outcomes and expand access to world-class healthcare services for all.
