MTN GHANA Foundation Hands Over Expanded Accident & Emergency Block To Ho Teaching Hospital

In a monumental step toward strengthening emergency healthcare delivery in the Volta Region and beyond, the MTN Ghana Foundation has officially handed over an expanded Accident and Emergency Block to the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH). The handover ceremony brought together dignitaries from MTN Ghana, Government Officials, Hospital Leadership, and staff to witness the commissioning of a facility that will transform emergency care at HTH.

The expansion project, executed under the MTN Ghana Foundation's flagship health infrastructure initiative, represents a significant investment in the region's capacity to respond to medical emergencies with speed and efficiency. The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, in an address, said such partnerships were crucial in fixing challenges in the health sector, adding, "we are incredibly thankful for this monumental gesture of corporate philanthropy." He said the intervention would go a long way to improve access to quality emergency healthcare for local and international clients.

Madam Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, in her remarks, acknowledged the ongoing medical tourism agenda of HTH and expressed the Company's pride in contributing to making such dreams a reality. She reiterated MTN's commitment to impacting lives through strategic investments in health, education, and economic empowerment, and commended the Hospital leadership for its dedication to excellence. "We are happy to be part of this journey and to witness the transformation taking place at HTH," she added.

The Chief Executive Officer of HTH, Dr. Hintermann K.K. Mbroh, underscored the critical importance of emergency care in the healthcare delivery chain. "Emergency care is the front door of any hospital in times of trauma, sudden illness, and crisis, and the difference between life and death is how quickly effective care can be provided," he said. Dr Mbroh emphasised that the newly expanded block would significantly strengthen HTH's ability to respond to those critical moments when every second counted. He expressed appreciation to MTN Ghana for what he described as a wonderful gesture that would save countless lives for generations to come.

The Chairman of HTH's Governing Board, Dr. Delanyo Dovlo, speaking on behalf of the Board and the entire hospital community, commended MTN Ghana for the transformative infrastructure support. He noted that the expansion aligned perfectly with HTH's strategic vision of becoming a centre of excellence in healthcare delivery and also in HTH's medical tourism agenda.

Professor Lydia Aziato, Vice Chancellor, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), also a member of the Governing Board of HTH, commended the collective efforts of all stakeholders, especially MTN Ghana for the infrastructural development and appealed for more infrastructural development for HTH so it could support the academic development of UHAS students.

The handover of the Accident and Emergency Block marks another milestone in the growing partnership between corporate Ghana and public health institutions. As Ho Teaching Hospital continues to position itself as a referral centre of choice, this expanded facility will serve as a critical lifeline for thousands of patients in need of urgent medical attention.
